I have five cards all five cards comes to 21000, my daughter will be in colllege in about 51/2 years and I want to clear my credit by then so I could help her out through college. Please give me your best advise. thank you

Dear Manny,

It is no secret on how to get out of debt, just pay as much as you can each month using the debt snowball method to pay your debt down.

Just don’t use the cards or go further into debt as you try to dig yourself out of this debt hole.

Since you said that some of your creditors did not want to work with you I would guess that you have had some problems making payments to your creditors. If that is the case, you could always go bankrupt now and use the years in between a current bankruptcy and college to rebuild your credit. If you are struggling to make it month-to-month and you don’t think you will be able to keep sending extra payments each month, then consider talking to a local bankruptcy attorney and see what bankruptcy would mean for you.

Follow these step-by-step directions to clean up your credit report.
