Getting Out of Debt Quickly. Is There a Way? – Connie

“Dear Steve,

I have over 10,000 in debt. Most is a credit card and loans. I have debt collectors calling me all the time but I don’t answer. I would like to pay off my debts but recently I quit my job and have to way to pay. I need help and would like to be debt free.

How can I get my debt settled without it taking me 30 years?

Connnie”

Dear Connie,

There are two different issues here so getting out of debt quickly will depend on your definition.

If you want to stop collection calls quickly, that can be done by reaching a mutually agreeable repayment arrangement with the collectors or creditors. Additionally you could explore a debt management plan with a credit counseling group and see if they can put together a repayment plan that might stop the collection calls in a few months.

If you want to make the debt go away quickly then you might want to see if you qualify for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, as most bankruptcy filers do. A Chapter 7 bankruptcy would discharge your debt in months. You can click here to find a local bankruptcy attorney to talk to.

Please post your responses and follow-up messages to me on this in the comments section below.

Sincerely,
