Consumer Statement:
I received a debt collection letter from Universal Fidelity LP as the assigned legal successor of Hollywood Video. I am being accussed of late fees for movies rented 3 years ago and while living in another State. If Hollywood Video went bankrupt, how can accounts receivables be collected? aren’t all accounts discharged at bankruptcy?
Consumer Action Taken:
I called the number provided 281-647-4156 and spoke with a representative who tried to explain that even though Hollywood video has filed bankruptcy, Universl Fidelity was assigned by the court as the collector. I was offered a settlement fee. When I asked for printed receipts, they explained all the documentation was property of the courts?
