Will My Mom Paying for Me to Go on a Vacation Hurt My Chances of Filing Bankruptcy? – Dave

Situation *
I will be filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Most likely this will be filed by my attorney next week. I have a large amount of credit card debt and can no longer even make the minimum payments on them.

My daughter will be graduating high school in June and I will be turning 50 yrs old. As a family present my mother is paying for our family to vacation in the Caribbean. Will taking this trip jeopardize my bankruptcy?

Dear Dave,

Not as long as you are not using your credit cards to run up debt before you file.

Have a good time.

Use the trip to make it a turning point in your life. Learn from the bankruptcy and don’t repeat the mistakes you can change.

Hopefully you are going on a cruise. Sitting out on the deck, watching the ocean sail by will be a relaxing break.
